Mighty Orq is a power trio from Houston, Texas. The
Mighty Orq (pronounced Ork) is a
power trio from Houston, TX known for their unique blend of emotionally
charged vocals, soaring guitars, and powerful drum lines. Their goal is
not only to write songs with
substance, but also to find truth in a world of soulless pop. Influenced
by legendary
Texas bands like ZZ Top, Soulhat, and Kings X, the band has been able to
reach out to wideranging audience that continues to grow and diversify.
After three years of extensive touring with the Tony Vega Band including
two European tours, two Houston Press Musical Awards, and a solo
all-acoustic CD `Prayer Book` the 24 year old Orq called on the services
of Jessica Will (bass) and Matt Johnson (drums, vocals) to record a live
CD`Ghost Train` at the Big Easy Social & Pleasure Club in Houston, Texas.
The CD is a unique blend of older, traditional styles of blues and soul
with a modern approach.`I` m really excited about the material we`re
playing. We`re sort of going for a Robert Johnson meets Vaughan brother`s
kind of steel, their influences are pretty hard to hide. And we really
want to make it accessible to everybody, not just to people in Texas.`
What does the future hold for Mighty Orq? `We`ve been playing a
lot of regional shows promoting the release of`Ghost Train`. We`ve sat
down as a band and started writing
together, and our music is going in a more rock-n-roll direction. We want
to try to do at least ten original tunes maybe more, really give the
people their money`s worth.
Whether we`re playing for four people or four thousand people we want to
give it everything we got.
Touring with: Clarence`Gate mouth` Brown, Duke Robillard, John Mayall,
John Turner, Alan Hayes and E. Sardinas.
Mighty Orq performed on and
contributed material to several albums including Tony Vega Band:
Dear sweet Goodness,
Live in Texas,
Yeah you right,
Matt
Leddy and the Meat cutters- Prime Cuts
This daunting schedule as well as the addition of Spin
Doctors Mark White on bass, has allowed the band to fine tune theirs into a
razor-sharp trio. The national release of their new album To The Bone will
coincide with huge shows around Texas and another 18+ months of touring the
world to support it. This is a task that the band is not afraid to take
on. After all, this will only bring more people to see what the next big
band from Texas is all about.
